After that lovely day yesterday, we are back to the mountain being covered in cloud this morning. Not quite as cold, but still well below zero, poor visibility and the best news of all being another 10cm or so of fresh snow in the village with more on the mountain. There's a bit of a wind out there as well this morning, but all of the lifts appear to be open and it's business as usual for Zao this weekend.
Looks like a few days of milder temperatures into early next week and tomorrow we might see some clearer skies again. Things should get back down colder again though as we get into mid-week.
Snow conditions for the weekend are great.
Remember the snow festival event over at the Uwanodai area this evening from 7:30pm, might be worth checking out if you are in Zao today.

At last, some blue skies! That's what some people will definitely be saying anyway this morning. There is still quite a lot of white cloud hanging around the mountain but there's also a good share of blue sky and it's a lovely morning here in Zao.
There is just a few cm of snow to report this morning as the snow eased off yeaterday and overnight. It's another cold morning, of course, but I think lots of people will be revved up to get out there and enjoy the weather of today after that long run of snowy and cloudy conditions.
A chance of snow today actually according to the forecast - in a way I hope not - and also tomorrow but not heavy, followed by clearer conditions on Sunday and Monday.
One of the first events of the Zao Juhyo Festival 2012 tomorrow on the Uwanodai area of the resort starting at 7:30pm and so if you want a taste of a Japanese snow festival that's the place to be tomorrow.

Well this morning we certainly have more snow with about 25cm in the village to report this morning. It's heavy snow and really poor visibility outside this morning. Snow, cloud and fog mean that you really can't see much of anything - a day to take extra care, or as many will likely do, take an onsen! The good thing is that there isn't that much of a wind. Temperatures remain cold this morning it was about -9 degrees when I woke up and isn't whole lot above that now, while it is -14 degrees over at the Paradise slopes.
More snow forecast for tomorrow and Saturday, though it looks like today is the peak and things should be calming down as we approach the weekend and we may even get to see some blue sky! With the snowfall of late, it should be a great weekend for Zao.

It is another cold morning with a temperature of -10 degrees on the thermometer earlier this morning, and the mountain is mostly covered in cloud and actually not much snow to report.
Some areas of Yamagata not too far away have been on the national news with stories of the heavy snowfall but this morning here we only have a few cm of snow overnight. We do have the strong winds that we had been expecting though.
It looks like the next few days should bring snow/cloud with conditions clearing up in time for the weekend.

After being cloudy for most of the day yesterday it was snowing by evening and this morning there's about 15-20cm of new snow lying around the village. It continues to snow lightly this morning, which thankfully has not been quite as cold as the previous few days. Still way below zero though so not time to get the t-shirts out yet!
The mountain remains covered in cloud and so generally not good visibility out there and similar conditions look like they will continue for the next few days. Clearer weather for the weekend? Perhaps. We will just have to wait and see.

To say this this morning is a very cold morning in Zao would be an understatement. It is very, very, very cold and I think more than a few people will have needed some sort of encouragement to get out of bed this morning!
-16 degrees up top earlier on and easily in the minus double digits in the village, though there's not much of a wind at all and the clouds are not as thick as they have been - it is cloudy with some patches of clearer sky on show every now and again, only to be covered by that fast moving cloud again quickly. So quite changeable early this morning.
Not much new snow to report since yesterday really just a few cm. But more snow is forecast for every day this week and into the weekend as this prolonged mid-winter snap continues.
Great snow out there, but remember to wrap up enough if you want to venture out onto Zao.

Just a few cm of snow to report this morning in the village and just like the last few days the mountain is covered in cloud and light snow is falling this morning. It has been a very cold one as well. Up top earlier on it was -16 degrees and even in the village it was down to -14 degrees when I got up. Very cold. Just a light wind but overnight I think there were stronger winds blowing about as there seems to be piles of snow where there weren't yesterday.
We might - just might - see conditions clear up a bit tomorrow, but from Tuesday into Wednesday we will more than likely be back to moderate to heavy snowfalls and it is going to keep very cold until at least the end of the coming week.
