What a great day it was yesterday! Wonderful combination of clear blue skies and great snow. Nice.
This morning we are back to clouds and snowfall. Visibility isn't too bad at all actually, but light snow is falling at the moment in, it seems, all areas of Shiga Kogen. Not the kind that will bring many cm - it's more like 'just there'.
Tomorrow and Monday in particular we look due to see milder temperatures before it getting colder once again early in the week bringing with it more decent snowfall from around Tuesday onwards.
Have a fun weekend.

Well this morning is a nice surprise. Not only do we have 20-30cm of snow to report since yesterday, but there are some nice blue skies on show above Shiga Kogen. The clouds seem to have taken a sudden retreat leaving these fantastic early morning conditions behind. Everyone out on the slopes of Shiga Kogen this morning are in for a treat with super snow conditions, lots of it, not crowded slopes and fantastic scenery as well.
The forecast for tomorrow currently is cloud with a chance of light snow and clearer conditions with sun on Sunday. After that next week we are due more snow.
For the time being today should be excellent. Hope to see you out there!

Perhaps not as much in terms of cm as we were expecting since yesterday, when it was snowing for most of the day in most areas. I'd say about 20cm or so of new snow perhaps, though some stronger winds were mixing things up and blowing snow around.
It is another very cold morning here and snow continues to fall. Not big flakes, more like little tiny snowflakes coming down and being blown about at some speed. Visibility remains low as most parts of Shiga Kogen completely covered in cloud as the snow keeps on coming.
It does look like this cold front is going to retreat come tomorrow though and we might see a few days of calmer skies, perhaps even some blue sky and some sun over the weekend as well. We'll see how the forecast stacks up come tomorrow with more information for the weekend.

We had some strong winds overnight, waking me up actually at one point, and while it is still windy it seems to have calmed down somewhat this morning. Winds do not seem to be affecting resort operations around Shiga Kogen - but expect some exposed lifts to move slower than usual if the winds pick up again.
Right now it is snowing across Shiga Kogen and coming down quite heavily at the moment. The winds last night no doubt blew around the snow that was falling yesterday and overnight and so it is difficult to estimate how much there was... perhaps 15cm or so, though the snow depths at the resorts aren't changing.
Visibility on the slopes not too bad considering it is snowing quite hard - it's not total whiteout - but there's not much in the way of 'scenery' on show today!
Tomorrow should bring more snow and then after that it looks like we have a chance of cleared conditions.

After the heavy snowfall of yesterday morning we actually saw things clear up later in the day and some blue sky even! It was back to snow later on though and as a result of overnight snow we have another 15-20cm of snow in places this morning in Shiga Kogen.
As I write this I can actually see the sun shining through the clouds here in the Maruike area, but at the same time it is a snowing. I guess the sun is going to lose the battle today as we do have snow on the forecast for the day, tomorrow and Thursday - with a chance of this snowfall easing off properly on around Friday.
Tomorrow in particular, strong winds are forecast.
Visibility around the resorts looks generally ok this morning but conditions look like they might be quite changeable today.

It has been a very good week for Shiga Kogen - after waiting for some decent snowfalls we have had a really good showing in these last few days. The official site is telling us of another 40cm since yesterday and there was 30+ on the tops of cars this morning. Strong winds overnight means that lots of snow has been blown around and so there's more/less in places. It's just great to be getting this snowfall now.
And it keeps on coming down with heavy snow falling as I post this report. Temperatures are right down there as well so it's a bit wild out there with only more snow forecast for the next few days. This particular period of snowfall is not over yet!

The goods continue to be delivered. The snow hasn't really stopped since my last report and resorts around the area are reporting 30cm or so of new snowfall since yesterday. Winds blowing things about a bit overnight mean that in places it is more and others less, but there was definitely more than 25cm on the top of the car this morning. It is still snowing now and there is more wind than there was out there yesterday so it feels colder as well.
There might be some slight clearings in the snowfall tomorrow but generally we can expect snow clouds to be over the region right through until next weekend with mid week looking good for moderate-heavy snowfall.
It's mid-winter folks - come prepared!
