Thursday 18th March 2010, 5:18PM
Weather conditions: Rain
New snowfall: 1cm
Snow depth: 210cm @ Tenjin (1400m)
Pretty strange day for weather today with a bit of everything. It is currently raining in the valley but due to turn to snow at some point. It is snow higher up at the moment.

Started out a great day today with blue skies and warmish temperatures but the cloud soon came in and by mid afternoon it had started to spot with rain. It is now raining quite heavily in the valley but as it gets colder we are expecting a decent layer of snow to fall.

This up and down seems to be a feature of the next few days and the snow/rain will be alternating with the sun and some warmish temperatures, especially on Saturday.

Wednesday 17th March 2010, 7:14AM
Weather conditions: Snow
New snowfall: 5cm
Snow depth: 215cm @ Tenjin (1400m)
The temperatures dropped on cue and the snow has started to fall. Currently a couple of centimetres at valley level with a few more up top.

The rain came in late in the day yesterday and some pretty strong winds came with it. It started to turn to snow by early evening and it has been snowing lightly on and off throughout the night. It took a while to start to settle but is now blanketing everything in white.

The wind today could cause issues. It is gusting quite strongly at the moment and may disrupt lift operation if it continues.

The forecast is for light snow for the rest of the week.

Tuesday 16th March 2010, 9:35AM
Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 210cm @ Tenjin (1400m)
Well so far yesterday's forecast of rain has been wrong, much to everyone's relief. The cloud is there but so far no liquid snow has fallen. Temperatures are a little on the warm side but due to drop later today.

The forecast is now saying cloud for most of the day with the snow falling later tonight but again that could be likely to change. Temperatures are due to stay cold through to the weekend so there is a possibility of a bit of snow up high.

Monday 15th March 2010, 7:58AM
Weather conditions: Clouding over
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 210cm @ Tenjin (1400m)
It's going to be another warm one today. Clear skies this morning, and with the sun coming up it made us realise how early it is getting light now. Green buds are starting to appear on the trees and all signs are of spring.

The slopes look great this morning after their grooming last night but they are going to be soft and sugary from pretty early today. Good conditions for some action in the park.

The clouds are set to come in today and the forecast has us down for some rain this evening and through the night. They've been wrong before...

Sunday 14th March 2010, 12:00PM
Weather conditions: Clear
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 220cm @ Tenjin (1400m)
A beautiful blue sky day in Minakami today with the temperature sitting on 5 deg C at the valley level. Great day for getting into the mountains!

The snow has now turned back to Spring conditions after the 40cm dump of powder on Wednesday. It looks like a week of melt ahead with rain and high temperatures forecast during the week, so Spring conditions from here on in.

Oana ski area has now closed with the other lower resorts; Norn, Okutone trying to make it through to the end of the month. (at least ok until the 22nd) Tenjin still has a large snow base and is expected to last until Golden Week. Houdaigi will probably close after the first weekend in April.

Saturday 13th March 2010, 7:02AM
Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 220cm @ Tenjin (1400m)
The weather seems a little undecided this morning. Grey cloud hanging over the mountain but much lighter, with a little bit of blue visible if you look down the valley. The sun is trying to fight its way out too.

The forecast is for cloud this morning and some kind of precipitation this afternoon. It isn't too warm at the moment so it might be one of those days where we get snow at the top though a little wetter lower down with sleet or rain possible.

The snow is going to be soft for most of the day, thanks in part to the warm weather yesterday and it is going to feel like spring underfoot so it should be a good day.

Friday 12th March 2010, 1:20PM
Weather conditions: Blue sky
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 235cm @ Tenjin (1400m)
Spring is back. Pretty warm outside right now and snow is melting here in the valley. Conditions up the hill are a bit better as it is colder up there and the higher slopes especially are really nice. Lower slopes are becoming increasingly stickier throughout the day.

The warmer temperatures started yesterday afternoon and the snow started to soften up then. It was a cold clear night last night so lots of ice around this morning, but it didn't take long for the temperature to rise and the dripping to begin. Still some fresh, untracked snow around this morning but it soon became heavier with only the shady aspects remaining good.

Warmer temperatures seem to be the norm for the next few days so expect soft, spring snow. It's good to see the sun again and there are plenty of folk enjoying a long, slow lunch basking in the warmth.
