The cycle of big storms followed by warm weather continues. Heavy snow on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, then a mild day yesterday followed by a positively warm one today.
Yesterday saw a party atmosphere up at Tenjin as it had been closed due to the heavy snow on Sunday. All the locals headed up there and it was busier than it had been all season. The opening of the lifts was staggered so each new patch got ripped up in good order.
Warm temperatures set to continue this for the next few days with rain predicted most evenings.

Heavy snow continues though it seems to be easing up a bit now. This current storm rivals some of the New Year ones for both quality and quantity of snow.
Yesterday the snow didn't let up and the strong wind interfere with lift operation at most of the resorts in the area. In fact it caused havoc on the expressways, local train lines and the roads.
Today we've had the same heavy snow but without the wind so it has been fantastic out on the slopes. Deep snow off the edge of every slope and at that depth the steeper the slope, the better.
Snow clearing has been a losing battle for the last couple of weeks but it is due to clear up in the next couple of day, so a chance to catch up.

Hammering down with snow since mid afternoon yesterday. Falling very heavily and a bit of wind around swirling it all around makes visibility a bit of a challenge. The walk to work was very dreamlike with shades of people up early getting a head start on the shovelling for the day. It is already to the top of your snowboots at valley level

Very indecisive weather again today. Another cold night last night and still clear again this morning with a very light dusting down here in the valley. The fine weather has continued most of the morning with the sun out but in the last hour or so the weather has closed in a again and some very light snow has started. Not sure it will amount to much but the forecast has been promising a bit of snow all week. It is now claiming that it will snow for the rest of today and then all of tomorrow but our trust has been a little dented and it will have to earn it back. Let's hope it delivers.

Wickedly cold this morning and the snow is just starting to fall again. Yesterday's sun melted just enough snow to make walking a very tricky affair on the way to work today.
It looks as if the sun will fight its way out again today but we don't anticipate that the temperatures will get above freezing.
There was a bit of snow last night up high but nothing down at valley level. Should be a great day up on the slopes. |

Almost the perfect weather system here at the moment. It starts to get cold in the evening, the clouds come in and it snows at night. Then it clears up by morning, the sun comes out but remains a little cold and there is a nice layer of fresh snow everywhere.
Tenjin is reporting 30cms of fresh snow overnight and the other resorts 10cm and upwards. The main slopes first thing looked amazing with perfectly groomed runs with just a couple of tracks coming down them. Off piste is still a little hard underneath the fresh coating but plenty of nice tracks are appearing.
Hopefully this pattern is set to continue for the next few days, and as long as the sun doesn't warm things up too much during the day, conditions are going to be great for a while to come. |

Another beautiful day here today. Blue skies all around and the sun is out and slowly trying to bring the temperature up after a brutally cold night. The walk to work was almost entirely on ice this morning.
Yesterdays's threatening clouds just hung about for most of the day but in the late afternoon/early evening light rain began to fall for an hour or so before gradually turning to snow for the rest of the night. There was a light dusting at valley level this morning (just enough to hide some of the ice) and the resorts are reporting about 10cm of fresh on top of a pretty hard base. |
