Report:
Hello and welcome back to the Shiga Kogen Now reports. We hope you had a good summer. It was hot in Japan but we had things cooler up here in Shiga Kogen. Since then though temperatures have dropped further and in early mornings and evenings now things can get quite cold.
Not to complain though - we are just about hitting the period of the year where the leaves on the trees turn to spectacular colors and there are some fantastic views now on clear sunny days - like today. This year the koyou seems to be particularly good, perhaps due to the sudden drop in temperatures we saw last month. There may not be any snow, but round about now is a great time to be in Shiga Kogen.
A few weeks ago we also saw the first snow of the season up on the top part of Yokoteyama. Good to see that first sprinkling, though of course it is early yet.
We'll be bringing you updates to this page every so often in the run up to the season, and then of course daily info once the snow appears and the season gets underway (which should be sometime in early/mid December).

Report:
Over 300 people turned up for the last day of the official season at Shiga Kogen at Shibutoge yesterday (1st June), bringing to a close a long season. This season Yokoteyama was open for a whopping 185 days!
Anyway the season is now at last over and we can look forward to the summer months and then on the other side of that the new snow in late autumn.
Shiga Kogen is of course a lovely place to visit all year round, and during the 'green season' a fair few lifts operate taking people up the mountains for sightseeing and hiking.
Planned opening dates of lifts in the area are as follows (subject to change, please check for details):
Shiga Kogen Ropeway;
Takamagahara line lift;
Higashiyama Gondola lift (open 1st July - 26th October);
Takamagahara pair lift (open 31st May - 31st October);
Maeyama pair lift (open 31st May - 31st October);
Yokoteyama Skylator & pair lift (open daily except 9th-27th June for maintenance);
Shibutoge romance lift (open daily except 9th-27th June for maintenance);
Yakebitaiyama Gondola (open 26th July - 31st August);
Okushiga Kogen Gondola (open 19th July - 17th August; 13th-15th, 20th-23rd, 27th, 28th September; 1st - 19th October).

Just one ski lift remains open at Shiga Kogen - at the Shibutoge resort at the top of Yokoteyama. The lift should remain open until Sunday 1st June.
Today sees fine weather in Shiga Kogen with blue skies, some cloud and the sun out early on. It is a warm 7 degrees at Shibutoge this morning.
