Summer was hot, as it always is of course, but now that we are into October it is getting much cooler especially in the mornings and evenings and people in the region are getting ready for the winter season. Unfortunately it doesn't look like the Arai resort will be opening up - though we are still hoping that there might suddenly be some news that says different...
In the meantime, of course, just up the road from Arai are the snow resorts at Myoko that are definitely worth a look at - Akakura, Ikenotaira and Suginohara on the magnificent Mount Myoko.
Well, for a number of reasons this is going to be the last Arai Now! report posted for a while. We are going to keep all of the previous Arai Now! report archives online however and hope that maybe some time in the future we will be able to restart reporting from this region of Niigata.
We'll also update this page with any news that we hear concerning the operation of the Arai resort.
Here's hoping for a great winter. |

Some rain has come on over the past week (to be expected in the midst of the rainy season), but less than usual for this time of year. Humidity and heat have also been light so far...
In eastern and western Japan, the weather will be mostly rainy for the first half of the next seven days, but will recover later. In northern Japan, it will be mostly sunny. The highest tempeartures across the country will be seasonal averages.
Presently at the resort it is 24 degrees celsius. Although rain is expected to come on later tomorrow afternoon, the weather outlook after that in the immediate area calls for cloudy but dry periods with temperatures hovering in the mid twenties. There is a chance of some sunny periods returning July 13 onwards.
At the upper elevations of the mountain presently there are still patches of snow, especially in shaded areas.
The next weather report will be posted here on the morning of Friday, 14 July 2006. |

A rainy season without rain over the past week looks set to be in the process of changing.
In eastern and northern Japan, the weather will be mostly cloudy or rainy over the next seven days. The highest and lowest temperatures across the country will be average or above for this time of year.
Presently at the resort it is 26 degrees celsius. Rain is expected to come on later this afternoon, & continue through most of tomorrow. The weather outlook after that in the immediate area calls for cloudy but dry periods with temperatures hovering in the upper twenties. There is a chance of some sunny periods returning July 6 & 7.
Believe it or not there is still snow at the upper elevations of the mountain.
The next weather report will be posted here on the morning of Friday, 07 July 2006. |

Although humidity has come into play over the past week, little significant rain has fallen. Last night was the exception however, with a downpour lasting just over an hour.
Presently at the resort it is approximately 24 degrees celsius at the base, & 22 at the upper elevations. Over the next week or so daily temperatures will remain in the lower twenties, with dry cloudy periods dominating the forecast. There is a possibility of heavy rain however because of an active rain front.
The next weather report will be posted here on the morning of Friday, 30 June 2006. |

The rainy season has now officially begun in Niigata Prefecture, bringing wet and humid weather to the area.
Over the past week, fair weather has been gradually replaced with that immediately above. Presently daytime resort temperatures are hovering around the 25 degree celsius mark, & nights are slightly cooler.
Rainy and cloudy weather will prevail for most of the week from eastern Japan down to the southwest, turning fine in some parts by Monday. Northern Japan will be mostly cloudy for the next seven days, with rain through Monday.
The next weather report will be posted here on the morning of Friday, 23 June 2006. |

Dry weather over the past week has been accompanied by periods of humidity & warmer temperatures. It is presently 15 degrees at the base of the mountain. Temperatures are not expected to become much cooler today, with highs in the lower mid-twenties expected.
Although presently raining at the resort (first time in approximately two weeks), Niigata Prefecture has yet to enter the rainy season. In eastern and western Japan it will be mostly cloudy and rainy for the next seven days while northern areas will be fine from the middle of the week.
Snow is still plentiful on the upper elevations of the mountain, and may in fact last into July this year.
The next weather report will be posted here on the morning of Friday, 16 June 2006. |
