HOT! There has been a spell of hot sunny days (28-34 deg C) followed by some impressive thunder storms over the past 2 weeks. This has kept the humidity up as well as the water in the rivers, which the local outdoor sports enthusiasts are happy about!
The next couple of weeks looks like it could be drier but it is likely that the yudachi (evening rain) patterns will continue until early September.
CAUTION ADVISED!
Those hiking or playing in rivers this summer should exercise extreme caution. There have been many strong sudden storms this season already, some of which have been causing flash floods. Keep an eye on the sky! |

It's heating up! Over 30deg C in Minakami today but with a nice breeze beside the river and a lot of nice swim holes to bath in, things are still bearable.
It looks like the rainy season is all but over with only 1 more day of rain on the horizon (Friday this week). Things should change over to the Summer weather patterns soon; long hot days with a short hard rainfall late afternoon (yudachi).
If it is getting to sticky for you in the city, come on up and cool off in the mountains of Minakami. |

Tenjidaira, the last ski area in the valley to be operating, closed yesterday, still with a 90cm base but bringing the end to the 2007-8 Winter season in Minakami.
We hope to be upgrading the information next season with the addition of a new weather station and more information from ski areas.
Some reports will be added to this page throughout the summer, but they will be a bit more irregular. |

The warm weather continues in Minakami. Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day with a high of 22 deg C recorded at midday. Today looks like it will be very similar with clear blue skies and no wind at present.
The outlook for Golden Week is also looking very good, with sun and warm weather predicted through to May 6th.
Tenjindaiara will be open until May 6th, with a good terrain park and still decent snow pack at present. Get in one last run for the season! |

The rain came down pretty hard on Thursday which caused the rivers to swell on Friday. The odd kayaker and rafter were spotted enjoying the Spring flows yesterday with some cars with snowboards on the roof still heading to Tenjindaira. Tenjin still has a snow base of 250cm with good coverage on all runs (except the return course).
The weather looks like it will be improving throughout the day today with mostly cloud but some strong winds possible later today and in the early hours of tomorrow morning. Monday onwards looks like sunny warm weather. |
