Last day of the ski season here in Hakuba was May 6th. We lucked out and had another bluebird day and it was a grand way to wrap up a great winter season. The ski resorts are all closed now for skiing, however some will be still open for hikers and those hardcore riders who want to hit up the high alpine snowfields.

Generally speaking this years winter was normal in terms of snowfall, but epic in terms of consistent powder days. Inevitable comparisons are always made to the year before, however locals and tourists were all treated to some classic Hakuba conditions on numerous occasions this season.

Green season is now upon us and the Hakuba Valley has a wide range of scenic natural areas and fun adventures to be had on the trails, in the lakes, on the rivers, in the sky, and on the mountains. Even dry-land skiing can be had on Iwatake, water-jumps at Sanosaka and Goryu for the freestlye ski and snowboard rippers and World Cup Ski Jumping events at the Ski Jumps. Hakuba also hosts numerous sporting and music events over the spring/summer/fall so check out whats happening in this cool little mountain community!

Avalanche Advisory:

Temperatures are rising and water is freely flowing in the snow pack thus slab avalanches to the ground are a definite possibility. Watch out for those precariously hanging slopes of snow on steep convexing terrain and under glide cracks. Move quickly through areas in terrain trap valley bottoms. There will be general loose wet slides on all slopes as surface snow temperatures rise and due to the snow pack being isothermal, ( all right at 0 degrees from ground to surface) Slides can be very big at this time of year so play smart.

Avalanche Hazard:

Tree line: Moderate

Weather conditions: Cloudy
New snowfall: 0 cm (at 1,500 m a.s.l.)

Hakuba is cloudy today with light showers expected at midday. These lower lying clouds may reduce visibility atop the resorts today. The snow on the runs will be soft, slushy and wet, also look out for open patches, exposed stumps/rocks and the many other skiers/boarders trying to milk the last days.

We are blesses again today with another classic bluebird day here. Sunny, warm, what more could one ask for? This is the last weekend for all the resorts, so if you have not already hit up the spring skiing then go for it. Great views today and very warm temperatures for this time of year. Enjoy the end of the season snow or land/water based sports!

We are lucky enough to have yet another beautiful day here in Hakuba under clear skies and sun. Mid-week is dead quiet on the slopes so you pretty much have them to yourselves if you head out. Only a week or so left on the tail end of the season so a last chance to get some sunscreen on and ride some spring corn snow.

It's no longer possible to ski to the bottom at Goryu & Happo meaning Gondola trips down from the mountain. As most years 47 still has clean runs to the bottom and should do until closing at the end of Golden Week. The Terrain Parks on Hakuba 47 and Tsugaike are open and in great spring condition.
